The challenge

The most common message was some version of “do you have this in stock?” — and the honest answer was often no, today. That ended the conversation and the customer bought elsewhere, because nothing captured their interest for when the item returned. Promotions went out as untargeted blasts to everyone, which drove blocks as often as sales.

What they set up

  • Product catalogue menu flow presents new arrivals, best sellers and current offers, and hands genuine buying intent to a person.
  • Back-in-stock signup flow records exactly which product the customer wants and tags them for that item.
  • When stock lands, a campaign goes only to that tag — a small, relevant audience instead of the whole list.
  • Contacts segmented by branch and interest; loyalty offers target segments rather than blasting everyone, with STOP handled automatically.

The numbers (modeled)

MetricBeforeAfter
Out-of-stock enquiries captured conversation ended tagged for a restock alert
Campaign targeting one blast to the full list segment by interest and branch
Opt-out handling manual STOP processed automatically
Staff time on stock questions constant interruptions menu answers first, staff close

What changed

A “no” stopped being the end of the conversation. The restock list became the best-performing audience the shop has — small, specific, and made up entirely of people who already asked for that exact product.
